The Dcu Superman Legacy Will Debut in July

The DCU has begun! The news of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the first chapter of the Franchise has now fallen, and the title of the already confirmed Superman project has been revealed as Superman: Legacy. The Superman project, in which Henry Cavill will not return in the role of Man of Steel, has also been set for July 11, 2025, Variety reporting that Superman: Legacy will be the beginning of this new DCU.

“It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing,” Peter Safran said of the project. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks kindness is old-fashioned.”All of this seems perfect for a Superman Movie so far.

James Gunn of The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy is currently writing to Superman: Legacy, with Safan stating that he hopes the filmmaker “may be able to be persuaded to direct as well.”

Gunn adds: “‘Superman’ is for everyone. This is a four-quadrant film that should appeal to everyone in the world.”

Superman is clearly a high priority for the Studio, and Gunn and Safran believe that the reintroduction of The Man of Tomorrow is the perfect way to launch their DCU.

Which, of course, is no different from what happened to Man of Steel in 2013…

Fans were disappointed to learn That Henry Cavill will not return as Superman
Although his return was revealed during a Post-credits scene at the end of last year’s Black Adam, it was confirmed shortly after that Henry Cavill would not be returning as the Man of steel. “I just met James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, all together. I won’t be coming back as Superman after all,” Cavill said in a statement at the time.

“For those who have been by my side over the years….. we can cry a little, but we must remember it…. Superman is still here. Everything he represents still exists, and the examples he gives us are still there! It’s my turn to wear the Cape, but what Superman represents will never do. It was a fun ride with all of you, onward and upward.”

Many DC fans were understandably disappointed by the news, and many took to social media to demand the decision be withdrawn. However, James Gunn, the newly appointed Co-CEO of DC Studios, has revealed why he and producer Peter Safran felt the need to start over with Superman. “At the beginning, our story will focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill,” Gunn said of his reboot plans. “But we’ve just had a big meeting with Henry and we’re big Fans and we’ve talked about a number of exciting ways we can work together in the future.”
